The huge Tyrannosaurus slowly circled the four captive humans, growling menacingly. From between the trees you watch helplessly as the living remainder of your platoon struggle fruitlessly to free their bound hands and legs. It had been a merciless night ambush. Out of the torrential rain, a pack of about twenty raptors had burst upon your group of 16 commandos from out of the forest. No one had had any time to wonder why they came or how they had not been noticed; such was the ferocity of the attack. You had fought back, but most of the platoon had been killed without any clear hurt to the creatures. Unnoticed, you had managed to get to the forest where you observed the brutal massacre of your comrades. After the brief battle, 10 of the group had been killed and the others wounded, one critically. The raptors had tied up four of the survivors, but the fifth had been too grievously injured for their interest and he had later been finished off by one of the creatures. The four captives had been dragged back through the forest and into the centre of a large clearing, where they had been thrown to the muddy ground and held down under the raptors' feet - one raptor for each human. Having known that any attempt at rescue by you would spell certain death, you kept silent and watched in horrified fascination. Presently there had come the sound of heavy footfalls, and an enormous T-rex burst forth through the trees. Restraining the urge to shout out or run, you held your breath and watched as the raptors stepped off the men and backed away. The huge tyrannosaurus began slowly circling the four humans who lay helplessly, struggling at their bonds. As it came around behind them, it suddenly bent down and grabbed one of the four in its massive jaws. A roar went up from the raptors and the man screamed and struggled wildly. The T-rex lifted him up as it raised itself to full height, then shook its head violently until the human hung limply from its jaws, obviously dead. It then tossed the man into the air and swallowed him whole. You jerk as the realisation hits you; this is not an interrogation, the commandos are being executed. The remaining captives started struggling and shouting, but a deafening roar from the T-rex silenced them. It continued circling the three, a satisfied smile playing across its fearsome reptilian features. After three complete circles, the T-rex stopped a couple of metres in front of the middle commando. It observed him for a few seconds, then let forth an odd growl. At this command, one of the raptors sprung up behind the human and clamped its jaws around his bonds. Taken by surprise, the man yelled and tried to break free, but the raptor dragged him forward and dropped him before the T-rex's feet. The human looked up at the huge carnivore, his eyes wide with fear; his staring was returned with a calm, malevolent, yellow-eyed gaze. The frightened commando tried to shuffle backwards, but the T-rex lifted up one powerful-looking foot and quickly pressed it down on his chest, covering him from his knees to his shoulders, and forcing him back down into the mud. It held him there for a few seconds, impervious to the man's screams and weak struggling; then with a triumphant roar, shifted all its 7 tonnes of weight onto the human. There was a sickening crunch and a squelch as the commando's ribs splintered and his internal organs were crushed to a pulp. Another roar went up from the watching raptors. The Tyrannosaurus lifted its foot off the flattened human and growled again, at which another two raptors darted up and dragged the corpse away. The T-rex wiped its foot in a patch of wet grass and continued circling the last two of the prisoners. You find yourself struggling to hold back tears of frustration and anger. These creatures are effortlessly slaughtering your entire platoon and there is nothing you can do but watch. The two remaining humans were becoming hysterical. One of them suddenly rolled onto his front and began pulling himself away with un-bound arms, you see that he has managed to slice through the rope with a sharp stone embedded in the ground. Several raptors moved to cut him off from his escape. They didn't attack, but looked up questioningly at the T-rex, who watched the slowly moving human with amusement for a few moments, then gave a snarling grunt. At this, the raptors leapt upon the commando, teeth bared and claws extended and tore him limb-from-limb. He was dead in an instant. You avert your gaze back to the last of your platoon, and see that he has passed out and is laying slumped on his side. Having devoured the escaping human, the raptors spread themselves out again and all attention fell on the unconscious form lying in the centre of the muddy clearing. The T-rex looked down at him disdainfully and growled at one of the raptors. The summoned creature trotted up and prodded the human with one clawed foot, then slunk back again as he rolled over and opened his eyes, yelling as the world came back into focus. A malevolent smile crossed the T-rex's face and it slowly stepped forward, towering over the terrified commando, who stayed rooted to the spot with fear. His head turned to look up at the enormous creature, then left and right at the huge feet on either side of him. In desperation he rolled to one side, but the T-rex planted one foot on his back and rolled him back again. The commando shouted and struggled wildly, flaying his bound arms and legs about, trying to lift the enormous reptilian foot from his back without success. After enjoying the feel of the little human wriggling beneath him for a few seconds, the tyrannosaurus slowly dragged its foot down the man's body, leaving a wet, muddy smear until it was covering only his legs. It then pressed down until a muffled crunch and a pained yell told it that the commando's legs were broken. The creature lifted its foot from its victim, who now lay squirming in the mud, unable to move himself. Next it lowered its foot onto his arms, forcing them to his right side, and savagely crushed them too. No cry of pain escapes the human this time, and you realise that he has mercifully passed out again. But the T-rex has noticed this too. Not satisfied, it raised its foot again and carefully prodded down on the commando's chest until he was fully awake. Sadistically dragged into consciousness again, the crippled human could only watch helplessly as the tyrannosaurus slowly lifted its foot high above him and took careful aim. You try to look away but cannot tear yourself from the scene. After holding its foot triumphantly over the little form in the mud, the T-rex slammed it down on him with such force that you felt the impact from where you were crouched. The raptors let out a triumphant roar as the last of the human platoon was killed beneath their master's foot. Weak things as they were, they should all be wiped out to make way for more worthy creatures. But while they still existed they would make good prey, even though they were so easy to kill. Your fists are clenched so tight that your knuckles are white and shaking, the furious rage that is boiling up within you threatens to make you scream at the top of your voice or lash out at one of the surrounding trees. You feel a need to break or kill something to make up for your loss of life, but fortunately your common sense gets the better of you and you decide to make a fast retreat through the rain to base camp. Quietly you back away from the clearing, then quickly turn around and find yourself face-to-face with one of the raptors. Shock causes you to cry out, and you stumble backwards towards the clearing where several more of the creatures are now approaching. Sheer adrenaline takes over, and you duck past the raptor and sprint into the dense forest. You feel you have never run so fast in your life. You run, Darting over logs and rocks and bursting through small shrubbery, all the time with the sound of the raptor closing in behind you, muted slightly by the constant hiss of the rain. Suddenly there is a snarl from over your shoulders and you are knocked over on to your front by a powerful blow. You feel the raptor land heavily on your back, knocking the breath out of you. Its claws dig through your jacket and pierce your flesh. You struggle wildly to get up, but the creature is surprisingly heavy for its size and firmly holds you down with its weight. You expect to feel sharp jaws closing around your neck or head, or the talons slicing into your back, but instead the raptor grips you by the scruff of your thick army jacket and drags you back towards the clearing. Not seeing any further point in remaining quiet, you shout and lash out at the creature, but it relentlessly pulls you back through the trees. Soon you are joined by several more raptors, which gather around and assist in restraining you. As you enter the clearing you are held tightly, facing the ground, with four sets of powerful jaws gripping your jacket, arms, and both legs. You try to jerk your head up to see what is going on around you, but a hard snout blocks your movement. You hear snarls and hisses all around you, and the stench of recent death lingers in the back of your nose. Eventually the raptors stop walking and you try to look up, but are still unable to do so. An approaching sound turns your blood cold. Boom boom BOOM BOOM - A large shadow envelops you, and suddenly a huge reptilian foot enters your vision and steps down barely a metre away from you, squelching the wet mud out from under it. It is quickly joined by another, and you are left to gaze at the feet of the creature that would undoubtedly kill you. You hear a deep growl from above and the raptors release you. You fall to the ground hard, causing a sharp pain in your left leg. Slowly you look up. The great T-rex towers over you, looking down you with a look of sinister pleasure. Cautiously you push yourself up with your arms, and drag your legs forward into a kneeling position, all the time keeping your eyes fixed on his. The sharp, piercing eyes seem to gaze right into your soul, to know everything there is to know about you. Escape never even enters your mind - you would have no chance whatsoever with the two-dozen raptors surrounding the area and the T-rex standing over you. You reach up and wipe the rain from your face, noticing your hands are trembling. The Tyrannosaurus lifts one foot and you fall backwards onto your hands, breathing heavily. The foot steps down to your right and the T-rex begins to slowly circle you, his yellow eyes locked permanently on yours. With the rain obscuring your vision, sounds become more intense and sharp. The constant crashing rain all around you; the slow, thudding footfalls of the great predator first in one ear, then the other; and a deep, soft growl that sends shivers down your spine. You are soaked through, your clothes sticking to you, and your breath comes in short fast bursts. He crosses in front of you. Your eyes flicker up to his, then dart back to the ground. Gradually your senses start to numb and fear renders you immobile. Your heart stops as the heavy footsteps pause behind you. Your eyes snap to the left side, but your head doesn't want to move. You wince as you feel hot breath on the back of your neck. The growling in your ear grows more distant as he lifts his head away from you. You breathe again. Too soon. A tremendous blow hurls you forward to the ground; the force of it would have broken your neck had you not been tensing every muscle in your body. You land on your front in a large puddle, nerves stinging. You push up onto your hands and knees, but a large heavy weight flops onto your back and you are forced back down onto your stomach. Pinned down, you look up and are unsurprised to find that the T-rex has one foot planted firmly on your back, covering you up from your knees to your shoulders, he roars in defiance. You cry out, struggling to catch your breath. The Tyrannosaurus treads down harder on you, pressing you into the soft mud. Groaning in agony, you lie miserably under his foot, spitting the mud from your mouth. The cold sole seems to curl around you; such is the force he is exerting on your body. With a savage slam of pressure, he steps off your back, leaving you lying wretchedly in the wet mud. You try to turn over, but your legs don't respond. You look up in time to see his scaled foot come down on you from the side. He rolls you over onto your back, then steps off you again, placing his foot down beside you with a malicious chuckling growl. Disorientated, you simply gaze back up at the T-rex, your breath coming in rasping jerks. You try to move, but find that nothing works; all you are aware of is the huge foot right next to you, covering half your field of vision. Your gaze snaps back to the creature's head as you hear a series of deep, snarling grunts that could only have been laughter. With slow, deliberate actions, the T-rex lifts his foot from beside you and slowly raises it into the air, hovering it above you. Muddy water drips onto your face from the great, expansive sole. Again you try to move, but to no effect. You stare up, taking in every detail of the scaled foot above you. Its shape is vaguely triangular, with the three large toes at the widest point, each with a sharp, black claw. The sole is wide and covers most of your field of vision, but beyond it you can still see the rest of the tyrannosaurus, appearing smaller at the head due to the angle at which you are forced to see it. Water drips from the middle toe into your eyes, causing your vision to momentarily blur. Finally the T-rex slowly lowers his foot towards you, allowing you to see more detail on the sole as it comes closer. Soon the underside of his foot fills your entire vision and you realise that he is aiming directly for your head. The three toes have disappeared beyond your brow and the heel is just visible if you tilt your head up slightly and look down. Finally the ball of his foot touches your forehead, pushing your head back down into the mud. Closing your eyes, you feel the cold sole conforming over your skull, then it touches your nose and your head is forced onto its side. As the T-rex's huge foot envelops your entire head, you feel it begin to creak under the pressure and realise the true intensity of the situation: you are going to be crushed to death. Just before your skull shatters, the T-rex stops pressing down on you and you open your eyes slightly. He slowly drags his foot over your head, wiping mud all over your face with a deep, purring growl. You wince as the wet mud builds up on the side of your forehead, and runs down your cheek. Soon his foot comes to a stop with the centre of the ball resting neatly on the left side of your forehead, solidly clamping your small head to the ground. From somewhere above you, you hear a satisfied growl. Then you feel the pressure increase quickly and your eyes close for the last time - you hear a triumphant roar from beyond the T-rex's foot - an entertained snarling from the raptors - the quiet thunder of rain - ...and you are dead.
