The Dragon at the Forefront Name: Stephen R. Garrison, aka Bluey Species: Forcastian Anthris Dragon Profession: Freelancer, Adventurer, Dragon-for-Hire Likes: dragons, tyrannosauruses, charrs, kangaroos, video games, lightning technomancy, adventures, being with friends, playing size pranks, belly rubs Dislikes: spiders, being sick or hurt, losing at games, being shrunk too small, being lonely, getting yelled at I'm an adventurous, fun-loving dragon from Forester Square on the continent of Serpentslash, a place in the world of Forcastia! I have really handsome sapphire blue scales and my belly is a milky white. I usually wear a green T-shirt and blue shorts. Sometimes I also put on a black wristband and other times even a green cloak if I want to look really classy. I also have leather boots with a red stripe near the top that I wear when I'm in rough terrain. I have a cool black lightning bolt symbol on the back of my right paw, because I'm a lightning technomancer. I'm not very good with it yet - I tend to zap myself more than I could zap an enemy - but I'm always practicing and I won't stop until I'm a master at it! I've got a lot of really cool friends, but if I listed them all out here, that'd take forever! It seems like I'm always doing something with them. Every other day we get into some really strange and outlandish adventures! I work for Charrila, a potions master, as her apprentice. She's really hard on me, and I don't think she trusts me at all. That's why she handles all the potionmaking and interaction with costumers...and keeps me doing janitorial work. I guess it's because a lot of the potions I make tend to go wrong. Well, I think that's all you need to know about me for now! I'll see you around! -Bluey |
The Man Behind the Dragon I am an eighteen-year-old male from Texas. I've always been a big fan of dragons and dinosaurs and other reptiles. I'm a big gamer, and I'm much more versed in the gaming community than I am in the film or music industries. I hope to become a famous published author one day with my works on Forcastia. My favorite games are Resident Evil 4, Half-Life 2, Dungeon Siege 2, Nox, TimeSplitters: Future Perfect, Rise of Nations, the Dungeon Keeper series, and Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney, among many, many others. A lot of my writing is inspired or otherwise influenced by games. For example, the leather boots that Bluey just mentioned are completely based off of the Leather Boots of the Dragon's Scale item from Nox (and consequently, every other set of leather boots in that game with an anti-fire enchantment, as they all look the exact same). The games that have offered up the most inspiration have been Arcanum: Of Steamworks and Magick Obscura, from which I gathered the foundation of the technomancy system in Forcastia, and Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem, which has changed the way I visualize exploration and adventure game systems. My first gaming experience, I think, was on a computer called the Commodore 64, and then the Commodore Amiga. I have fond memories of playing on those computers with my brothers. From there I found myself with a Sega Genesis, and then Nintendo 64, and currently, a Nintendo Gamecube and a PC. I plan to get a Playstation 2 and a Nintendo Wii, although plans may change. My favorite television shows are The Simpsons, Futurama, Family Guy, X-Play, Brainiac, Mission Hill, Robot Chicken, The Boondocks, Harvey Birdman: Attorney at Law, The Venture Brothers, Dexter's Labratory, Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends, American Dragon: Jake Long, and Timon and Pumbaa. The only reason I went so long with that list is because that's pretty much it. The game list could take forever, seriously. My sense of humor is sort of a mixture between the comedy I've come in contact with. My favorite authors are Piers Anthony (Xanth series), Brian Jacques (Redwall series), Donn Kushner (A Book Dragon), and J.K. Rowling (Harry Potter series). No special stories there. They just rock. I love dragons, mostly the sort of dragon that Bluey is. Not one bent on destruction, but ones that are fun to be around and are humorous and silly, with a penchant for wacky adventures. Besides the noble dragon, I like dinosaurs, mostly the tyrannosaurus rex. I also adore kangaroos, although I've never been to Australia so I have no idea what they're like in real life. My favorite Pokemon is the Charmander, and that is where the charr species on Forcastia comes from. As for themes in stories and drawings, I've grown fond of transformation, shrinking, growth, and sometimes inflation. I like to explore the change in perspective and emotion of one going through such changes. These things don't feel quite right (as right and natural as they can be, anyway) on humans, so I like it best when it's on animals and creatures. Anything else I say would be largely unnecessary. I salute you for listening to me for so long, and I hope you stay to enjoy the rest of the stuff on the site. - the Author |
History of Bluey Bluey began as a simple adventurous dragon. Forcastia wasn't even close to being conceived, so Bluey wasn't anything more than just some independent dragon. I did some real-life roleplays with a close friend in middle school, and named Bluey's friends after a bunch of my friends in real life. Of course, back then, Bluey wasn't even called Bluey. He was "Blue Dragon", inspired by a monster one encounters in the game Tales of the Unknown: The Bard's Tale on the Commodore 64 (and other systems, and is also the game that the website's layout is based upon). The nickname Bluey came from my roleplaying buddy; her dragon character was white, and so she got the name Whitey. So now you know - Bluey is not named after or based upon the character Bluey from the Dragon-Tails webcomic. I don't believe I knew of Dragon-Tails back then. My first experience with writing came from Neopets, when I began to write for the Neopian Times. Back then, Bluey was horridly overpowered as a character. He had a magic sword, a magic shield, numerous pieces of ultimately useless magical equipment, a full spellbook's worth of arcane tricks, and at times, I actually wrote him as being regarded as "invincible". He even had his own villain counterpart, Red Dragon (the most original name ever, and I should really sue the makers of Spyro the Dragon for taking it), who commanded the Spirit Dragoons, a troop of psychics would could control people's minds, a la (or should I say, EXACTLY LIKE) the Psi-Corps Troopers from Command and Conquer: Red Alert 2. Red Dragon hated Blue Dragon for almost no dicernable reason, and constantly had plans to use him to his benefit. But have no fear - Blue Dragon always triumphed, thanks to his ability to transform into Golden Dragon when he gathered enough power, just like how Sonic turns into Super Sonic. Blech! Thank God I came to my senses and remade poor Bluey! At the rate he was going, he was slated to be the worst Mary Sue in history. I continued work in the Neopian Times, slowly reshaping Bluey into a more believable character. He still loved adventure, but this iteration of Bluey actually got into trouble every now and then. With his Neopets, Bluey found himself fighting raging blizzards, desert necromancers, and dark fairy queens. He found himself shrunk to mouse size and transformed into shoyru and zafara forms. Above all, he found himself arguing and compromising with his Neopets. I left the Neopian Times soon after new regulations made it impossible to continue my style of writing. My final story was Rice Cracker Rush, in which the antagonist was health food. New rules called for all technology used in a story to be found on the Neopets site/world itself, among other strange regulations that basically stifled my creativity almost completely. I left the Neopian Times, and soon after, the Neopets site, due to a feeling of betrayal. I was never as popular as other authors, so my exit from the Neopian Times was quiet and, ultimately, unnoticed. However, I left with new lessons and techniques that were the foundation for my new "empire". Bluey was further shaped into what he is now. He developed memories, ambitions, and talents and is, in my opinion, my most sculpted individual character. I couldn't throw out my old Neopets, so I let them evolve into Forcastian forms. Darkmoon the gelert became Joseph Gaiden, a canine. Dragoon the shoyru became Tristan Emberglow, a small dragon. Gatling the lupe turned into Miles Raven, a wolf, and Legionnaire the scorchio became Derek Satchel, a scientist dragon. Emerald, the krawk that I never actually officially had, became a young croc-esque reptile, Renay Krokodial. Spirit the zafara became Timothy Hawkins, a prankster kangaroo. Bastet and Azure, an aisha and kyrii, are slated to return someday as well. So there you have it. Bluey began as a simple dragon, and in his pawsteps sprouted an entire world. He enjoyed a brief stint as practically a god, and then evolved into what I feel to be my mascot character. Will he be as famous as Mario, Sonic, Spyro, or Pikachu? Maybe. Only time will tell. - the Author |
In Which I Answer Questions Do the words at the top of this page mean anything? You mean "Draconis Anthris Forcanum"? I dunno. They might. I just wanted a pseudo-Latin way of saying Forcastian Anthris Dragon and making the place feel mystical. |
