"A Belly Rub Exam"

This story is number one in a series called "Belly Rub", which are simply very short stories without a whole lot of plot. They center around size change, inflation, and transformation, and the recurring theme is a big, nice belly rubbing.

“Well, Mr. Garrison, you seem to be in fine health.”

Bluey the blue dragon sat on an examination table in the Forester Square clinic. Elena, a kangaroo who was Bluey’s friend and currently his nurse, wrote down some notes on a clipboard.

“All I can really say is this - improve your diet and get a bit more exercise, and you’ll be in perfect shape,” Elena smiled.

Bluey grinned and replied, “Thanks! So...that’s it? I’m all done?”

“For the most part.” Elena searched through a cabinet while Bluey slid off the table. Elena pulled out a small pill bottle and handed it to Bluey. “Here, take one of these vitamins once per day. They’ll help with your tiredness.”

“Okay,” Bluey nodded. “Would it be all right if I took one now?”

    “Of course, go ahead.”

Bluey stepped over to a sink and put the pill bottle onto the counter. He didn’t notice the bottle of burstberry capsules on the counter next to his vitamins. He filled a paper cup with water while Elena began to speak.

    “How has Dragoon been lately?”

“Dragoon?” Bluey asked, turning to face Elena. “He’s been fine! We went on a boat ride with Darkmoon last weekend, out on Karissa Lake.”

Elena smirked. “You three used life jackets, I hope.”

“Of course we did!” Bluey grinned, knowing full well that they did not.

“Well, if you see Dragoon again soon, remind him that he has a checkup next week.”

“Sure! I’ll probably be seeing him later today!” Bluey turned back to the sink, and grabbed the bottle of burstberry capsules by mistake. He popped it open and put one of the bright red pills into his mouth. He gulped down his water and the pill dropped down his throat. It was at this time that he picked up the burstberry capsule bottle and examined it. “So...I’m taking burstberry pills?”

Elena looked up, confused. “Burstberry pills? No, of course not.”

Bluey’s eyes fell upon his actual vitamins. “Uh...uh oh.”

Wondering what the matter was, Elena joined Bluey at the sink. Her eyes widened and she snatched the burstberry bottle out of Bluey’s paws. “Oh dear! Did you take one of these?” Elena’s ears fell as Bluey nodded sadly. “These are made of burstberry concentrate. They’re an experimental medication and they’re not meant to be taken with water!”

The color drained from Bluey’s face. “Wh...What happens if you take them with water?”

“Well...you’ll see. It’s not fatal, but you may not find it too pleasant. We can’t have it happening here, so come with me!” Elena took Bluey’s arm and pulled him out of the room and down the hall. She led him into a potion storage room about the size of a small bedroom and securely locked the door.

“A-Am I gonna explode or something?” Bluey asked, backing into the center of the room.

“No...you’re going to inflate,” Elena replied, staying relatively calm.

    “I-Inflate!?” Bluey yelped. “I don’t wanna inflate! I’m a dragon not a balloon!!”

Elena stepped over and put a paw on Bluey’s shoulder. “Listen. Like I said before, it is not fatal, and the process happens fairly quickly. It will be painless, but I can’t say for sure if it will be uncomfortable or not. It’s happened to a few other patients, and...well, a couple found it quite pleasant.”

Bluey’s quivering subsided slightly as he felt the kangaroo’s paw on his shoulder. “All right...ha-have you ever been inflated?”

Elena blushed. “Er...once. On accident. It was a very light inflation. It wasn’t exactly...enjoyable, but in most respects it was fine.”

“Do you think you could...inflate with me? It’ll make me feel more secure.”

The kangaroo smiled, embarrassed, and politely declined. “I need to stay my regular weight today. Perhaps some other time.”

Bluey sat down on the tile floor and braced himself for the inflation. Elena began to look through the potion shelves for something to put the dragon back at his regular weight after the inflation while reassuring Bluey that he would be fine. Suddenly, Bluey let out a hiccup. He let out another one, and then another one, beginning to hiccup faster and faster. His hiccuping turned to light burping and finally full belching. His cheeks turning crimson, he tried to excuse himself after each one, which was interrupted by another belch.

    “It’s beginning,” Elena said.

Bluey’s burping came to a stop, and he began to feel pressure in his stomach. He put his paws on his belly and his eyes widened in wonder as it began to expand and rise. His green shirt began to ride up, revealing the true milky whiteness of his belly. He pulled his legs toward himself, his feet planted on the floor for support and his knees pointed upward. He grew larger and fuller, his belly finally passing his knees. He blinked as his belly stopped expanding momentarily. His shirt and shorts were resisting his belly’s growth with all of their might. While it was not totally painful, the pressure was building up and becoming cumbersome, and Bluey found himself wishing that his belly could just grow without restraint. He pressed his knees into his belly and gritted his teeth, growing worried that his stomach would pop like the cork of a champagne bottle. Finally, the sound of ripping fabric met his ears and his belly was left to grow in one last, large bound and land on the floor with a loud slosh. His shirt was ripped in two and became nothing more than a ratty-looking vest, and the front of his shorts had torn apart. His white belly dwarfed any instance of blue on his body.

    “H-H-Holy...s-s-s-scales!” Bluey stammered. “My b-b-belly!!”

“See? That’s what I meant by inflate.” Elena sighed. “It’ll take a while for you to get back to normal. Your body will need to digest all that extra burstberry juice. I think there’s a potion in here somewhere that will speed up the process.”
Elena continued looking through the potions, and a peculiar sound came to her ears. It was a quiet whining sound, coupled with sniffling. She looked over at Bluey; she could see only the side of his face, but it was obvious that his eyes were watering up and he was on the verge of tears.

“Oh! Please don’t cry,” Elena said, concern showing on her face.

“I’m so...s-stupid!!” Bluey replied, beginning to cry softly.

“Come on now...don’t worry about it!” Elena tried her best to be supportive. “Like I said...it’s happened before, it’s no big deal.”

“It’s a really big deal, at least to me! I mean...look at me! I’m a...a...blueberry!!”

Elena chose not to comment on the fact that Bluey was far too white to be a full blueberry. She crouched down to get closer to Bluey’s level, and placed a paw on his full belly. “Listen...it’s all right. I can help you get back to normal, and besides...you’re...” Elena began to blush. “You’re...sorta cute.”

“Cute?” Bluey’s ears perked up. “Honestly?”

The kangaroo rubbed the dragon’s belly gently. “And rather soft.” Elena smiled. “Do you mind if I rub you a little bit?”
Bluey’s cheeks flared. “Er...go ahead! It feels nice.”

Elena stroked Bluey’s belly lightly and timidly at first, and then she pressed her paw into the white with more force. What began as a soft rub became a soothing massage with a trained paw. Elena’s smile widened, and she could see from Bluey’s own smile that he was enjoying it as well.

“You’re really good at this...” Bluey observed, in a tone that was the closest to a purr that a dragon could muster.

“This isn’t my first belly rub,” Elena replied with a light giggle. She had been using her right paw to stroke and pet the dragon’s belly. Atop the blue fur of her rubbing paw was a black first aid symbol marking. It was not a tattoo or a fur dye, but rather the mark of a therapy technomancer, one who specializes in healing and rejuvenation. This technomantic degree coupled with extensive knowledge of medicine made Elena perfect for her occupation as nurse and most recently, masseuse.

Strangely, as the rub continued, Elena found herself compelled to make the rub go on for as long as possible. Bluey’s huge white belly hypnotized her and captivated her. It was as if the rub was therapeudic to the giver as well as the receiver. She felt...safe, in the company of a trusted friend. In the back of her mind, she wished that she could stay in that potion storage room forever, endlessly rubbing Bluey’s belly and making him smile and purr.

She got down onto her knees and wrapped both arms around the dragon’s belly. She pressed her own stomach into his and lifted up her shirt so that she could feel his belly against hers. Warm scales met soft fur, and both occupants of the room were trapped in total bliss. Elena began to rub once more, using both paws this time. She pressed into Bluey’s belly, finding it like an oversized pillow. Her eyelids began to droop, and she found herself wanting to lay against her friend and take a nap. Her ears perked up at a sudden thought and she looked at Bluey’s face. The dragon’s eyes were closed and he was sleeping peacefully. Elena smiled and laid her head against his juice-filled belly. She rested there for a few moments, periodically stroking her new pillow with her paws or moving her own belly against the dragon’s to tickle his scales. Finally, she removed her head and paws and worked herself to her feet. She looked down, letting a small sigh escape. Elena stepped away and began looking through the potion shelves once more.

Finding the potion she needed was a simple task. It was a potion designed to boost one’s metabolism and biochemistry. It was used in the clinic mostly to speed up a patient’s recuperation and natural healing. It could also be used to accelerate digestion, which is what Elena intended with this dose. The catch was that the boost in metabolism only occured if the patient was asleep. Knowing that Bluey was far too excited and flustered to sleep, Elena used an old trick - the belly rub. It worked on crocodiles and it worked on dragons. A properly administered rubbing to the stomach area could send the greatest of reptiles into a deep, almost drugged slumber. What Elena did not anticipate was how much she enjoyed rubbing Bluey’s belly. She had given rubs before, even to other inflated dragons, but for some reason, rubbing Bluey made her feel euphoric and tranquil.

Elena blushed as she realized she was now hatching a plan to meet Bluey in the Great Forest every week, inflate him, and give him a mighty belly rubbing. She couldn’t possibly bring herself to try that, and was heavily embarrassed to find half of her thinking how fun it would be.

She reached down and opened Bluey’s mouth slightly, and poured a dose of the potion down his throat. There was no visual cue as to whether the potion was taking effect or not, so Elena could only wait and see if his belly shrank. She found herself not wanting to see that beautiful belly disappear under the dragon’s trademark T-shirt. The kangaroo began to think about an alternate plan - she could use a shrinking potion and get tiny-sized, and then Bluey’s belly would be gigantic and warm to her no matter if Bluey was inflated or not!

Elena sighed. This one belly rub seemed to have fouled up her entire moral code. She would have a lot of pondering to do when she got home.

***
The blue dragon stretched and yawned loudly as he began to awaken. He opened his eyes and looked around, finding himself again in a small business office. He slipped off the sofa and gazed down at his clothing. It was an outfit he hadn’t worn before - a black sleeveless jersey with a blue star design, and gray athletic shorts.

“I see you finally woke up,” Elena, sitting at the desk, looked up from her paperwork.

Bluey grinned and stretched again. “I feel...wonderful!”

“A good nap will do that.” Elena smiled.

“What’s up with my clothing, though?” Bluey tugged at his jersey. “I haven’t worn this for months. Where’s my shirt?”

Elena pointed to a pile of torn and useless colored fabric on a chair in the corner of the office. Bluey could see that it was the remains of his green shirt and blue shorts. “I don’t think you’ll be needing that particular outfit from now on. After you began to digest the burstberry juice, I brought you in here to let you finish your nap and continue deflating to normal size. While you did that, I went past your house and picked up some fresh clothing for you, which I had a nurse dress you in. I thought you’d need something summer-y.”

Bluey blushed and pushed his foot around on the floor. “I’m...really sorry I caused so much trouble today.”

“It’s all right,” Elena replied. “Honest.”

“If it’s any consolation...that was a fantastic belly rubbing you gave me. What’s your secret?”

The kangaroo smiled. “You just have to put your heart into it.”
