Welcome traveler to the lands of Cytheria! We hope you enjoy your stay for however long you plan to be with us be it a few hours or several years. We ask that you read, learn, and abide by our laws while within our borders for the safety and well being of yourself and all.
1. Herein the Cytherian Lands, slavery is outlawed. No person within our borders
is a slave unless granted or placed so by special permission or order of the Temple.
Only those who are convicted of a crime and sentenced to such life or those who willingly
give up their freedoms for the collar of a slave are allowed to be such within our
borders. Those that wish to become a slave in our lands must inquire at the Temple
to be allowed such.
2. Crimes within our borders are dealt with by the Paladins
of the Temple. They are our guardians and law enforcement. A Paladin may be recognized
by his cloak bearing the emblem of the Temple and that Paladins are forbidden to
cover their upper bodies with anything but the cloak.
3. A Paladin will work
to resolve a crime or wrongdoing as best that they can or may place involved parties
under arrest for detainment or also escort them back to the Temple for a hearing
presided over by the High Priestess. The verdict of such a hearing is final within
our lands. Only the goddess Cytheria herself may overturn such a ruling unless proper
evidence is presented to warrant a new trial.
4. A Priestess carries the same
authority as a Paladin in matters of the law and may command the Paladins if needed.
A Priestess may be known by her cloak with the emblem of the Temple or by her completely
naked body.
5. Within our lands, Priestesses are the only females allowed
to be publicly naked. All other females will be asked to remain clothed in public
and may be approached by a Paladin for impersonating a priestess and corrected if
seen naked in public.
6. Punishments may range from simple recompense for
minor infractions to slavery, exile, and/or death if called for for major crimes.
7.
Major theft, property or personal damage, unlawful enslavement, slave abuse, and
murder are considered major crimes and will be punished.
8. A Priestess or
Paladin found to have committed a crime may only be tried at the Temple and only
by the Priestesses. This applies to all Priestesses and Paladins regardless of what
lands they may be in when the crime is committed. Also, no Priestess or Paladin may
be made the slave of anyone save the Temple itself and them only by consent of the
High Priestess and Cytheria herself else their enslaver and all involved against
the Temple will suffer the wrath of Cytheria which includes full removal of any ability
to heal themselves of any injuries or disease as well as a full inability to reproduce
in any way. Priestesses and Paladins of the Temple will not render any assistance
to one afflicted by Cytheria's curse. When the one in question is freed and/or repatriations
made, only then will the curse of the goddess be lifted.
9. In the event of
a death penalty, said execution will be held at the earliest possible time and unless
otherwise mandated by the temple, will be death by impalement for all except Paladins
and Priestesses and will be done publicly in the town square.
10. Willing
slaves are to wear engraved collars of polished metal and are to be afforded common
courtesies the same as any free citizens. They are not to be abused under any circumstance
nor bought and sold without their own consent.. Those found abusing these slaves
will be punished accordingly.
11. Criminal or convicted slaves are purely
property. They may be bought and sold at will without their consent. They are to
wear collars and chains of iron or steel. They are not afforded most common courtesies
but are not to be abused to the point of severe injury or death. Those found doing
so will be punished accordingly.
All of the above laws listed are expected to be known and respected. Ignorance
of such is no excuse.
The Temple of Cytheria is the cultural, spiritual, and governmental center of
the Cytherian Lands. It is from here that the Priestesses and Paladins watch over
the lands, protect and govern those who live within the borders of the Cytherian
Lands. The goddess of the temple is Cytheria herself, the goddess of healing and
fertility as well as love and life. It is she whom the Priestesses and Paladins serve.
As such the Temple promotes life and well-being and it pains them such to have to
take a life for any reason but they know that sometimes such is unavoidable. For
them slavery is also somewhat abhorrent and as such they do not promote slavery except
for those who are happy and willing to live such a life or in the case of punishment
for lawbreakers. At the Temple the citizens and visitors of the land are also afforded
shelter in times of war as well as healing and a place to rest in times of sickness.
The Paladins of the Temple are skilled healers, the Priestesses even moreso. The
Paladins are the warriors and protectors though the Priestesses themselves will fight
when needed and do so with a ferocity, skill and passion unmatched by most any.
Within
the walls of the Temple proper, it is asked that one remove any and all clothing
that they wear out of respect for the goddess. This is required for Priestesses and
Paladins. Trials are held within the Judication Chamber within the temple proper
and presided over by the High Priestess herself. While it may seem unfair to males
that they may only be Paladins in service to the Temple, this is only because the
male body does not possess the required equipment to properly serve within as the
Priestesses do though proper hermaphrodites are allowed to join either ranks. A Paladin
or male that has performed an act of great reknown or extrordinary heroism in support
or defense of the Temple and the goddess that draws the attention of the goddess
may be allowed to join the Temple as a Priest but such events are quite rare. A Priest
would be held to the same standards and practices as the Priestesses. Most any are
allowed to join the Temple but must first be approved by the High Priestess of the
Temple and then goddess in the ritual of induction. Age is not a factor in the decision,
only the mental and spiritual maturity of the seeker as well as their own discipline.
The Priestesses of Cytheria are held in the highest regard by those who live within
the Lands. These females have given up their lives outside of the Temple to enter
into complete and total service to the goddess. From the day of their induction,
they have willingly forsaken wearing clothing of any kind within the Temple and only
their cloaks outside and beyond the borders of the land for as long as they live
or serve the Temple, living in complete and total nudity in service to the goddess.
They serve only the Temple and Cytheria, slavery for them being forbidden anywhere
and everywhere except in service and by permission of the goddess. A Priestess must
practice the rituals of the Temple and to assist those in need wherever, whenever,
and however she can. If someone is hungry, she is to feed them. If cold, clothe them
and provide them shelter. If injured heal them and if barren and wishing child, assist
them in all ways needed. If the Temple or the Lands are threatened, she is to protect
them and the people, even at the expense of her own life. To be a Priestess, one
must:
1. Devote her life to the Temple and Cytheria and live by her tenets.
2.
Show her devotion by, from the time of her induction, living her life completely
naked, showing her body to all at all times.
3. Assist and heal those in need
in any way, shape or form to the fullest and best of her abilities.
4. Live
and abide by all laws, rituals, and practices of the Temple.
5. Never betray
the Temple, goddess or sisterhood.
A Priestess who disobeys the laws or betrays
her order or the goddess will be punished and in the case of betrayal, severely.
Such punishments can and may include slavery to the Temple, lashes, exile from the
Temple and memory wipe, imprisonment, or even execution in the most dire of circumstances.
Punishments including death are described in the rituals section below. A Priestess
may leave the Temple and sisterhood of her own free will as well. One doing so will
be supplied with clothing and money from the Temple before departing and will always
be welcome at the Temple and always allowed to return to the fold should she feel
her calling draw her back. While asked to live within the Temple, Priestesses are
allowed families outside of the Temple with the only request of the Temple being
that the children be brought up within the Temple's fold.
The role of the Paladins of Cytheria is usually reserved for males who find themselves
drawn to serve the goddess. They provide protection for the Temple and Lands along
with the Priestesses and also act as the enforcers of the law. They also are to render
all assistance to those in need however and wherever they can to the best of their
abilities. From the time of his induction, a Paladin must never cover their upper
bodies in any way save for the Temple cloak he will be issued and is required to
remove all clothing when within the Temple proper for as long as they live or serve
the Temple and Cytheria. To be a Paladin, one must:
1. Devote his life to
the Temple and Cytheria and live by her tenets in service to the Temple and surrounding
Lands.
2. Live, abide by, and enforce all laws and practices of the Temple
within the Cytherian Lands.
3. Assist, protect and heal those in need in any
way, shape of form to the fullest and best of his abilities.
4. Show his devotion
by, from the time of his induction, living his life forever topless outside the Temple
and naked within the Temple.
5. Never betray the Temple, goddess, other Paladins
or Priestesses.
A Paladin who disobeys the laws or betrays the order or the
goddess will be punished and in the case of betrayal, severely. Such punishments
can and may include slavery to the Temple, lashes, exile from the Temple and memory
wipe, imprisonment, or even execution in the most dire of circumstances. Punishments
including death are described in the rituals section below. A Paladin may leave the
Temple and service of his own free will as well. One doing so will be supplied with
clothing and money from the Temple before departing and will always be welcome at
the Temple and always allowed to return to the fold should he feel his calling draw
him back. Paladins are allowed families outside of the Temple with the only request
of the Temple being that the children be brought up within the Temple's fold.
The laws of the Temple are as follows. These are expected to be obeyed at all
times and those that disobey will be punished accordingly.
1. The laws that
apply to the Cytherian Lands also apply within and to the Temple itself.
2.
Within the Temple proper, all Priestesses and Paladins are to be completely naked
out of respect for Cytheria. Outside of the Temple, Priestesses must still remain
completely naked within the Cytherian Lands and may only wear their cloaks during
bad weather or when traveling outside of the Lands. Paladins are allowed their cloaks
outside of the Temple, but must remain otherwise topless at all times.
3.
Priestesses and Paladins must aid those in need in any way required to the best of
their abilities.
4. Priestesses and Paladins must defend the Temple, Lands,
and Cytheria with their very lives if need be.
5. No Priestess or Paladin
may be made a slave of anywhere at anytime unless approved of by the goddess and
High Priestess.
6. Betrayal of the Temple, goddess, or sisterhood by any Priestess
or Paladin is considered treason and will be dealt with severely.
7. Citizens,
willing slaves, and all those outside of the Temple are to be treated with respect
and common courtesy befitting them.
The Priestesses and Paladins of the Temple practice many things. Listed here are
the most pertinent.
The Temple provides protection to the citizens, residents,
and visitors to the Lands.
The Temple provides for healing and hospital facilities
for the Lands with the Priestesses and Paladins as healers.
The Temple provides
for the needs of the residents of the Lands when they cannot provide for themselves.
