"I'm not fat", he insists. "I'm just heavy."
Whatever 'Big' Bubba's outward attitude about his size, he is privately embarrassed about his weight. Shy and insecure as a duckling, Bubba was often rejected within social circles and turned to food as a means of comfort, though this soon left him subject to further teasing. Continuing to gain further mass as he grew up, he then spent much of his adolescence finding ways to turn his considerable frame to his advantage among his peers, often resorting to bullying those who he found he could easily intimidate.
In his adulthood, Bubba prefers to keep to himself. Owing to continued insecurity about his appearance however, he quickly becomes defensive and disgruntled whenever his weight comes into question. Indeed, if he is sufficiently provoked, he has been known to deal out quite extreme retribution.
After all, it is not difficult to hurt people when you are quite so 'heavy'.
Bubba was originally conceived in mid-2010 following my release of a stomp comic which featured a generic cartoon duck, albeit one of a very different build. As I was quite keen on the character featured in this comic, I quickly developed a model for a much larger, fatter duck character who I then formally introduced as one of three new original characters for my collection in June 2011 - hence why he is still relatively unused at present.
Aside from his status as the only 'chubby' member of my cast, Bubba's design also differs somewhat from the rest of the group in that he is rather more stylistic and cartoony in appearance. This grew out of a strong affection I developed around the time of his inception for the duck characters often featured in Disney and Warner Bros cartoons, as well as some artistic frustration I had been experiencing with drawing more realistic characters for some time before.
